Off North Cape, Endeavour struck atrocious weather that lasted for nearly three weeks. Even under reduced sail, the ship was driven some fifty miles north-east of land, then over 100 miles out to the south-west. [After a sketch by Sydney Parkinson, 'The Endeavour in stormy seas' 1769.]
