The idea for this story came from my (then) 1 year old granddaughter Tyne. She was with her mum and dad in Canada and I was in New Zealand but we kept in touch as much as we could through Skype (a situation common to many grandparents in these times)
One day I learned she had been inventing her own little word-plays and had come up with “Uncle bunkle”. For some reason “Elephant Bellyphant” jumped into my mind and the little parade of rhyming animals that eventually became Bumblebee Grumblebee was born.
This book was also a real collaboration with the team at Gecko. They all contributed to moulding Bumblebee Grumblebee into a fun little book worthy of the imprint. My only regret is not being able to squeeze in the wet Cockatoo wandering off with his sock.
