Limited edition Solarplate etching by David Elliot - only 42 in total.
Shows the Bellman, from Lewis Carroll's poem The Hunting of the Snark (1876):
“The Bellman himself they all praised to the skies—
Such a carriage, such ease and such grace!
Such solemnity, too! One could see he was wise,
The moment one looked in his face!”
FIT THE SECOND: The Bellman’s Speech
Each solar etching is hand printed and signed by the artist. Image sizes are consistent but as the paper is carefully ‘ripped’ by hand the outside dimensions of each print may vary slightly.
- Image size with print number and artist signature: 125 mm x 80 mm; 5 inches x 3.25 inches
- Paper size approx.: 190 mm x 145 mm; 7.5 inches x 5.75 inches
- Framed: No
Solarplate is a simple and safe approach to etching that does not use acids or solvents. It is exposed with light and developed with plain water. The process works by placing a transparency in contact with the plate and exposing it briefly to the sun or UV light.
