    Towards sunset
    they gather by the hundred
    until the old elm
    brims with birds
    fluttering like leaves.
    Such twitterings
    you’ve never heard.
     
    Then, strangely,
    as if the leader called
    ‘Get ready now,’
    All is still…
    Suddenly they’re off!
    Dark streamers
    in the rosy sky.
